ummm, horrifying is the only word I can think of..... So it's not only that they lost their families but they go through this kind of abuse... I am simply disgusted, who ever did that, I am sure their place in hell is waiting for them right next to all the murderers and the maniacs if not deeper!

Anyone knows what happened to those kids now?

It's tragic what's happening in Iraq now.. these are kids who were discovered by Americans who had the resources to help and save their lives.. there are thousands of other kids who, although amongst their families, have no food to eat and no beds to sleep on..

all our victims and all are a reminder of how fortunate we are, and how f'ing pathetic most of us are.. calling for sanctions, political allowances, oil-distribution, f'ing parliamentary seats.. F this bullshit.. if a human isn't getting food, what on earth are we doing?

that American soldier who was kind enough to carry the little boy and play with him is more worthy in the eyes of the Lord than all those wimps who sit behind fortified walls and talk about f'ing democracy and 'improving iraqi lives'..

f'ing bullshit

If you look at Lara Logan's report, within the Slogger piece, she mentions they are being cared for at another orphanage.

another orphange?! hell, I thought they deserve better than that!!!!!!
Why didn't they send them somewhere respectful with therapy for the poor little souls?!

I saw that Iraqi Slogger post via some site (can't remember which). That is sad beyond belief. How can somebody do something like that?!? What these kids do to deserve this? They didn't do a damned thing! Nobody deserves that!

Glory Rose!,

I don't know what kind of social services are available in Iraq. But whatever is available is really only as good as the people running it. I hope that there will be some continuing oversite for the kids to make sure they get the care they need.

well, my bet is it will pass just like everything else... These kids will be traumatized for the rest of their lives, no one is gonna do anything about it as usual!

What social services?! There is no such thing, specially for someone with special needs...

I understand. And that is one of those things that needs changing. Unfortunately, with everything that's going on now, it's something that falls by the wayside.

I can only hope that someone who cares will take an interest in those kids and continue to watch over them.

I know when we first arrived there were a number of our guys who "adopted" orphanages and made a point of visiting often. But after everything was turned over to the Iraqi government I don't know if that is still the case.

Here is an update in pictures on the children who were removed from the orphanage.

Lynette i dont agree,
social service can get as good as the restrictions on helping people allow. (quote lyn.: "as good as the people running it.")

That is more of a limitation then the personnels individual wish to help.
(didn't see the pics but i get that it is about neglected children.)
I even think it is the limitations that screw up the personnel and not the other way around.
(so that the helpers become victim of the greedy system as well, while it is negating their efforts)
It is a very lousy position to know how to help and not to be allowed to.
I am under the impression marginality is sustained to get cheap labour is the endpoint.

Onix,

Certainly there are limitations on how people can help, if for instance there is no funding or proper training of personael, etc. I agree in this regard.

But in this case there was food available, but it wasn't used for the children(who were malnourished) and there were children tied to beds. These things could have been prevented if the people caring for these children were compassionate and caring. Of course this raises the issue of how people who work in this and other orphanages are chosen. There again putting the onus on the system to, well, work.
