To Iraq, with love...

"Al Pacino: Okay here are these lines, repeat after me: "I don't want your money, I want your bookie's fucking money."
Matthew McCoughney: "I don't want your money, I want your bookie's money."
Al Pacion: You didn't say fuck. Is that a religious thing?
McCoughney: No, I just don't like saying it.
Pacino: You've a lot to learn. I can't feel your frustration, your pain that you have to share with me. You have to say fuck, man - let me know that you share my confusion."
This is a poem I received yesterday, I made some modifications here and there. I'm not much a poetic spirit so I translated it as I see fit, sometime sticking to meaning but occasionally trying to rhyme, I hope the meaning was kept intact.
p.s. Ladies'd better shy away now.

Fuck Iraq, the country in which we were raised
No comfort have we seen, never we were at peace
never like normal people, never we were at ease
A whirlwind of misery, bitterness and disease
So Fuck Iraq, The country of which you are so pleased
Fuck Iraq, and fuck every part of this crap
Like a large wooden boat which has long lost its map
Like a blind man with chopped legs and arms snapped
It cannot stand up, forever falling on its face
so Fuck Iraq, the country in which we were born and raised

Fuck Iraq, fuck its people and its land
I don't want anymore of its plegdes and commands
A people that are and ruled by thieves, bandits and gangs
Nobody lifts his finger, but yet everyone demands
So fuck the country of the two rivers and sand
Fuck Iraq, fuck its north and its south
Not an image has remained and not even a shambling poster
Every inch of its cloth is ragged and wretched
Like a beggar awaiting rain with a dirty, open mouth
Fuck Iraq, the country which never did I doubt

Fuck Iraq and fuck these goddamn Kurds
Sunnis and Shiites fight while Baghdad is burned
Donkeys who bray about history and its mirth
Like an Ostrich which buried its head in the earth
Oh FUCK the country in which we've been given birth

Fuck this country, which America gnarled and ate
And now everybody wants a share of the cake
Raise your glasses, the loot is at stake
And when the strong falls, the prey becomes the snake
Fuck this country in which we were born and raised
Fuck Iraqis, who failed the Imam alive
but after he's long passed, they mourn for their own crime
His son bought their words, they fled in time of might
Only the iron fits us, so let Saddam feed us shite
So please fuck this country may it get out of my sight

People are the product of their circumstances kid.
Let alone their natural inclination to go wild when they have a chance to.
Imagine any country in the world without law and order for one day, even the most advanced, you will be shocked.
Our problem is that we have social and educational backwardness. and this goes even for the period before Saddam.
We were never taught to love our country or respect laws.

If you don't invest in people, don't expect them to do anything positive. unfortunately we don't carry patriotsm in our genes.
And just to let you know, no one will die for his/her country not only Iraqis.

I respect your anger and frustration, it is natural and we all feel the same one way or another. A feeling of betrayal and disappointment.
You swear, others cry. Things are so out of hand and hopeless.

Still, the poem, I am not sure if we can even call it that; reminds me of chat shows and stand-up comedians in here, they swear to attract attention, and you don't need that, you write beatifully and always have a point.
I can see your answer to my comment "I don't care". But you do and I do and that is why we are writing.

Yes, it reminds me of a lame ICP song called "F*** The World". But such constant swearing is very normal in western media, what makes this poem better is that you don't usually see such things from hypocritical Iraqis.

It is exaggerated, but in some ways it is very true.

Tislem Cucu, Amazing, Great, Magnificent, Excellent and no it was not exaggerated, books like it can be written, and even without repeating any lines

Seems to me Iraq has already been well and truly f***ed. Traumatized as a any rape victim. And before the healing can begin, Iraq must escape the pimps that hold her hostage....

funny you put "*" for the "kos" w0rd which was in arabic while the F word you didnt "*" it ;)
again one thing does "kos ukhut" mean tha F word!! cos "kos" means "pussy" and "ukhut" is sister!! so it will be "sister's pussy"

peace bro,
from the shit_hole =D

If u know anything about translation u'd know that sometimes a literal translation is the worst one, for example :Abu Dera ---> Father of Armor?!? Sometimes u have to replace the word with the thing that it feels like.

fuck, is the most commonly used swear word in English, so it's easily the best translation for Ko$$, the most commonly used Arabic fashoora.

LOL

let it all hang out

thanks for translating for us. my favorite part.. very similar to something i wrote @ 24's earlier today

Fuck this country, which America gnarled and ate
And now everybody wants a share of the cake
Raise your glasses, the loot is at stake
And when the strong falls, the prey becomes the snake

sometimes you just have to express what you feel.
you are one brave soul
hats off to you

the thing about profanity though is you have to either get creative with it or just go into graphic detail creating a gross visual if you want it to be effective, otherwise you just sound like a thirteen year old that just discovered the "eff word". you can do quite a great deal to offend people without using the traditional "bad" words.

i agree with hala though, i think deep down you care and you're just reacting to your environment. if i was living in jordan or saudi i'd be saying the same things, but i'm not so i just make fun of neocons and rednecks.

nadia n, i really appreciate straight talk, just saying it right how it appears in your mind. completely raw. i think when we are feeling raw we aliegn ourself to whatever/ however the expression comes. if people always waited til they are able to refine their expression we would not have evidence of the origin of feeling. this is where some of the greatest art comes from. most of us learn at an early age how to stiffle this expression for it is a threat to refinement. this is how we are assimilated into 'civilized' culture.

once when i was having a rare argument w/my son (when he was about 7) after much pussyfooting around w/out success he let out a stream of obscenities that was shocking in its expression and i totally 'got' how deep his feeling were for i knew otherwise he would never have resorted to this.

in this way, i respect people who are able to cast conformity to the wind , shed all inhibition and say what they feel. in this case, kid let the poet speak for him. i applaud his honesty.

oh i agree. i tend not to bullshit, it tends to gets me in a lot of trouble.

it's just that people say fuck so often people tend to forget what they're saying.
like if some kid says some show is gay i'll be like 'when did you see it have sex with the other homosexual tv shows'.
there are plenty of ways to say fuck something without using the word fuck that are way more offensive and disturbing. it's the delivery as well as content.
ie which line did you find more effective "fuck me" or "i'd cut my arm and my penis off if..."

obviously i'm not saying don't do it, just commenting on style cause i'm procrastinating right now.

quite frankly i don't know what the fuck youre talking about so i'll assume you are bored like me :)

ouch, remind me never to get near you in an argument! i see your point clearly now nadia n.

it hurt me to read it, but i thought it was a great poem somehow.

thank you for sharing it.

i know what you mean- it seems real.

i hear all these idiot people on tv talking about xyz, and i see pictures of people dying, and there's a disconnect between the two. the poem seems closer to what's real, not talk.

that was a great translation, as well.

best regards,

lisa

yes this guy he said the truth , we are now the most stupid people in this plane, we don't know what we want, and we are dumasses too, we forget every think about Saddam how he smash Iraqis and now when Americans came and removed this murder and made this great system of election we star complaining, why? because we have brain damage. Iran Mullah, Saudi Whabbi and Bath party convened us to refused this government
