I'd Rather Live The Lie

Noam Chomsky angry discourse on US politics and the disappearance of the subject of Iraq from the 2008 elections. While I don't agree with his rationale : Chomsky clearly blames the US for every crisis in the world, but it does ring true in many ways, especially his handling of the idiocy regarding the number of deaths, and how American hawks think they own the world and the Iraqi "unpeople"are just tools that can be magically made to do as required in the end.

There's no doubt in my mind that the US knew Saddam Hussein was just a tired, petty old geezer who just wanted to grow old and die in his private ranch, Iraq. They clearly have not a care for either Kurdish or Shia oppression and are probably cursing the day they listened to people like al-Chalabi, who explained to them that Iraqis are freedom-loving people with a clear sense of nationhood that only need to be rescued from the cruel dictator, and not a collection of sects still living in a medieval mentality where that dictator was the only force holding it together, a country where most of the population would listen to their God's representatives, the Ayatollahs, before anyone else. We all knew the stuff about WMDs were lies exacerbated as an excuse, however, fed up with living long days in backwardness, we [well, Kurds, Shias, and me with a few ignorant Sunnis who didn't know what Iraq really is] cheered for that lie because we thought Saddam was the only reason stopping us from a modern advanced country.

Today, after looking the ugly truth in the eye. I'd rather curl up and die in the comforting fact that Iraq will not be a modern country because my scapegoat, Saddam is suffocating it than realize the fact that a solid "Iraq" isn't there to exist in the first place.

Very well said my friend.

BlogIraqi and Abbas:

I think yor being to hard on your countrymen. It is a difficult transition for a people to go from a highly controlled political environment to an attempt at forming a liberal democracy. It took the Poles ten years to get the hang of it, and the Russian still can't get the hang of the "rule of law" part.

Neither the Russians nor Poles had to cope with the effect or a devastating invasion or 10 years of international sanctions.

Closer to home, it took the Kurds a good number of year to get the internal fighting out of their systems after the gulf war. Iraq will need a lot of time to recover from the combined effects of Saddam's misrule, the international sanctions and the US invasion. I say give it at least another five more years before you give up hope.

longer. Rome wasn't built in a day.

the disappearance of the subject of Iraq from the 2008 elections

Not just from there! Its hardly ever reported on the main news anymore in England. Not that we have much influence on it so maybe that doesn't matter.

they listened to people like al-Chalabi,
Or you know, encouraged and funded his bullshit not caring if what he said was true.

The circle of neocons were a bunch of ex-trotskyists and spartacists, ie they had no idea how the real world worked, but their rhetoric was almost totally absent in the lead up to the war, it was mostly about fear mongering.

Russian still can't get the hang of the "rule of law" part.
and you know germany, the right always uses the second time they tried democracy as an example and not the first cause oops!

Yeah, but I think saying "I'd rather live the lie" (if that's the best he's got) is the most clear-headed statement I've read from him in a while. The smartest move for the Iraqis and Americans (and the rest of the civilized world) is to double-down on the gamble that Iraqi's have the same natural human desire to thrive as the rest of the world.

[lelly] [Iraq has] not just [disappeared from the US 2008 election]!Its hardly ever reported on the main news anymore

Quite true in the US as well. I can't imagine why that is. /sarcasm
Abbas might doubt that Iraq has turned the corner but the US newspapers and the Democrats do not.

I think you are being too pessimistic. There are IMO more Iraqis with sense than you think. Also, the disadvantages of having religious extremists around have been made very clear to a great many people.

Don Cox said...

One difference between 2003 and 2008 is that there are now a large number of Americans who have actually spent a year or more in Iraq and have a clear idea what the country is like. It is no longer a far away place full of unpeople.

If you would like to call his employers at Wyeth and complain about his behavior or the time he wastes at work reading blogs, the number is: (978) 475-9214

You can check As'ad's sitemeter and see the IP address from Andover, MA, there.

As we speak, the Kurdish "terrorists" are being killed by the Turks. The United States is, at best, turning a blind eye.
This shows how concerned we were about the Kurds.

Muhannad you are full of shit, you have referred to Asad as Asshead and Asad Abu Kherra on your boyfriend Jeffrey SHOEster's blog plenty of times. Because you are a filthy kherra brained hypocrite who says one thing in front of your American friends and another thing in your desperate attempt to be accepted by Arabs on this blog. You are an idiot, everyone realizes that and you keep saying that you will leave if asked but how can you be asked to leave a blog when most bloggers just flat out ignore you or only pay attention to you for two seconds to call you an idiot as Mr. Feikiki has? There is nothing worse than a fool that doesn't realize when he isn't welcome somewhere. That fool is you. As far as your never ending quest to continue seeking out information about bloggers that don't want to make that information public, are you completely brainless? If someone wants something made public they will blog about it. If and when Bassem, Omar or Zeyad want you or any of your disgusting American friends to know information about you then they will either let you know or they will blog about it. But don't hold your breath. And in case you haven't noticed all of this personal information about you was posted after you publicly stated that there was no problem with Jeffrey going behind Zeyad's back and getting information (attempting to get information) from his professor about him. It was immediately after you indicated your support of Jeffrey's efforts that information was quickly gathered about you and your father and posted publicly. So quit whining like the little faggot that you are.

Also you have avoided answering a few questions, quite possibly because you have no intelligent answer for them.

1) If bloggers don't want personal information about their immigration status know then is it or is it not an invasion of their privacy to continue asking and to ask their former professors?

2) If your friends openly state that they hate Palestinians then is it not hypocritical for you to continue that friendship under the rubric of "agreeing to disagree" while pretending that you still care about the Palestinian issue. As a non-Shi'a Iraqi would it be hypocritical of me to state unequivocally that I support Shi'a rights and then to continue to support and befriend those who openly state that they despise Shi'a and wish to see the Sunnis finish them off?

3) This has been brought up repeatedly and you keep avoiding it. Jeffrey SHOEster is not some innocent American blogger with an opinion. He is certifiably a nutcase. He stalked another blogger until that other blogger had to call the police. Jeffrey SHOEster, your friend, that you have boasted about having lunch and dinner with was forced to seek medical treatment over his obsession of a certain blogger. This same nutjob now is seeking out personal information about other bloggers. This doesn't raise any red flags in your shit filled brain?

[looking over my shoulder] Are you talking to me? Look, drop the anonymous crap, Arab Advocate (or whatever other name you go by), because everyone knows who you are.

While its none of my business, anyone who would tolerate your spam and feeble attempts at cyber-harrassment, doesn't take much pride in his blog.

Jeffrey SHOEster is not some innocent American blogger with an opinion. He is certifiably a nutcase.

Did you two meet at the facility? Perhaps you can get him to share his medication because you really need it.

Abbas,

You might have to exterminate the anonymous critter. They never discuss topics; they only use Mukhabarat intimidation tactics. But hey, it's your blog, your call. However, if you want to watch the comments pages get kudzued up the wazoo, do nothing.

Alas,what a lie to live.
As for Iraqis..well of course they want to thrive! How they go about it is another matter. Whether it be by trying to and taking responsibility, or blaming it on others. Its true Iraqi is a victim of circumstance, but you can influence your own future too.

[Jeffrey to Abbas] "You might have to exterminate the anonymous critter".

You should rather exterminate these vermin, CMARII and Jeffrey.
At their lair, Rats' Sewer Central, this lying Rat CMARII just wrote this slander about me:
"However, in the last few months, it is impossible to keep track of threads in the comments on certain Iraqi blogs because of the number commenters posting as 'anonymous'. Most annoying is how often this is done by commenters with established identities on Iraqi blogs (such as Italian)".

Now, dear Abbas, you, like all the owners of Iraqi blogs that suffered my rants, can testify that I always write with my nick and especially with my homepage ...
so, honour to the Anonymous who exposed the name & whereabouts of that other member of that gang of Rats and LIARS, the sectarian Mojo/Zainy !

CMAR II said...

How can he or anybody else testify to that? That's the insidious nature of anonymous commenting. Wow, now I feel bad. I hurt Italian's sensitive wittle feewings.

@ Rat CMARII, 2:38 AM.

[CMARII] "How can he or anybody else testify to that?".

Dear Rat & LIAR, they have of course the IPs of those who post. So, it's easy for a blog owner to see whether an 'anonymous' has the same IP of a 'known' poster.

[CMARII] "Wow, now I feel bad. I hurt Italian's sensitive wittle feewings".

Now, LIAR & Rat, are you recanting your slander about me, or not ?
That's true that if you stand by your LIE it wouldn't make your reputation worse, since you (and your website) have ZERO credibility, anyway, LOL !

Except when they use anonymous proxies, which at least one troll on Mojo's blog has been doing.

There's no reason for any blog to allow anonymous commenting. Anyone with a gmail account can comment with a blogger ID. And it takes 1 minute to set up a gmail account. It's still abusable but at least there's a little accountability that way.

How could you ever expect Iraq to become modern? It's filled with arabs for christ sake!

Shams said...

revolution or change at least should have taken by the will of all Iraqis but what stopped them is the bloodshed and of fathers and sons not returning home. Iraqis are simple people at the end of the day, and they want to live normal lives.

that what stopped most Iraqis from not revolting.

but that revolt did not come natural, it was rather imposed.

and the bloodshed was not entirely the will of all of the nation, it was rather the working dissedents outside of Iraq.

nevertheless, it is time to look forward, no matter what we discuss, we have parliment now.

and alot of misconceptions are on the table to be discussed or will be discussed no matter what.

instead of blaming problems on others, peole now are seeing what is missing.

but the price we are all paying is not having a home of our own and with the american auspice above us.

now i dont even see the meaning of my msg, isn't it all power politics?

CMAR II said...

[Italian] Now, LIAR & Rat, are you recanting your slander about me, or not ?

Let me get this straight. You support cyber-harrassment of bloggers, but you are offended because I'm convinced you have been posting anonymously. Boy, nothing wrong with your moral compass. So surprised.

Okay. If it will make you go fly a kite, I sorry I mentioned you in that non-anonymous comment. I'm sorry I'd ever heard of you at all.

[CMARII] "Let me get this straight. You support cyber-harrassment [sic!] of bloggers, but you are offended because I'm convinced you have been posting anonymously. Boy, nothing wrong with your moral compass. So surprised".

Now, dear Rat, "harassment" has got just one 'r' in American English (do learn to spell your own language, please).
The cowards harassing Iraqi bloggers are Jeffrey Schuster and yourself (c'm'on, hypocrite, mind your own nick against Riverbend and the Jarrars).
And, scaly-tailed boy, the fact that you are "convinced" that I would "have been posting anonymously" just shows how stupid you are.
Since I have a nick I'm proud of, why should I post anonymously, you brainless Rat ?

[CMARII] "Okay. If it will make you go fly a kite, I sorry I mentioned you in that non-anonymous comment. I'm sorry I'd ever heard of you at all".

I imagine this has to be taken for an apology, dear Rat. But, admit is, it's a bit grumpy and begrudging, don't you think ?
If I make a mistake, I just apologise, and that's it ...
Apart from that, despite this apology you left your silly slander in your inane post at Rats' Sewer Central !
Possibly you could do better, c'm'on !
