Iraq is fucked up, here's why, I must say that Patrick Cockburn is go(o)d.

As you know, Qaddo's milita is having a tough time is Basra, habibi, al-Maliki himself is over there, habibi, but is this any different really, habibi? Qaddo told Maliki to "leave Basrah, habibi". So far I haven't read something which explains to me what exactly caused this violation of the trumpeted ingenious ceasefire, but I guess it's not important, habibi, those intra-Shi'i clashes haven't needed much of a concrete reason in the past, and I don't believe it's going to end up any different than the previous Sadr-Badr confrontations in Karbala', Diwaniya or Amara. Some fragile truce is going to be negotiated and Hojjatolislam Muqtada al-Sadr would be heralded as the indomitable safety valve of our country, habibi.

Hmmm...guess that kind of blows my comment in the other thread. Should have read this post first before replying to Annie.

The flag thing again? I wonder if Patrick Cockburn knows exactly how many different flags we wave over here?

Give war a chance.

They did let it with the two major sects, now why not intra-sects.

Well
I think we've got to ask; where is Sistani from all this chaos?!!

heck yeah! as long as we're givin' war a chance. after all, blood is blood. as long as iraqi's die the genocide continues. negotiation, diplomacy? that's sissy stuff.

Sistani backs the snake Hakim, as usual.

Sistani has no clout over the Sadrists, who often mock him as the "Sleeping Hawza". the rivalry between the Sadr and Sistani is long and deep.

What about the relationship beween Maliki/Da'wa and Hakim/SIIC? Is it an alliance of convenience or do they share a common goal? Could they too be at eachothers throats down the road?

anon1,thanks for your clarification about the Fatimids in the previous string. I, like Abbas, need to know a lot more about them before commenting any more on the subject. I guess I was pretty much extrapolating from what little I read about al-Hakim 40 years ago! But I'm not alone. The Columbia Desk Encyclopedia has a short article that cites their "religious intolerance" as one reason for their loss of power.

Abbas ,
You didn't say who exactly is going to do the heralding? You do remember that Sunni forces hailed Muqtada Al-Sadr as a national hero and true patriot for a very long time , i still remember how enthousiastic were my sunni friends about him , they wouldn't let me say a word of criticism . Once Salah Almutlak said that "Alsadr is a true iraqi and a true arab hero , the others are persians" .

Anyways , am sure Jiddo Al-Duleimi is now laughing the rest of his teeth out .

Iraqi Shia have two things to do: first go to Ziyara(Pilgrimage) or fight between each other. I'll tell you something: YOU ARE THE MAJORITY OF IRAQ AND IF YOU ARE FIGHTING EACH OTHER SO THAT'S MEAN WE ARE IN STATE OF CIVIL WAR. SO STOP FIGHTING AND GO BUILD YOUR COUNNTRY INSTEAD AND IGNORE HAKIM, MUKTADA SADR AND MALIKI

2 militias fighting and killing each other.. uh.. its like a dream come true...

i salute the maliki for this major change in his policy against the sadr militia.. although i am not sure that he did it for the iraq's eyes..

iraq will never be stable as long as militants are armored and ready to kill people..sunni or shia, they all need to be neutralized.. hopefully the maliki will accomplish something and prove that he has left his sectarian identity behind and started to be more like a patriot iraqi.. way to go maliki..

This is beyond ludicrous. The very Iraqi army that's supposed to fight Fat Muty's militia is deeply infiltrated by these very militiamen . Maliki probably thought they were loyal to Badr, but a lot of them only swear by the Fat Sayyid's name. Watch them as they refuse to fight or worse still cross to the other side and show their true allegiance.
Oh well! Militia fighting Militia... Let's hope they annihilate each other!
